
Pathways Japan is calling for applications for the Intermediate class for “Japanese for work” for Afghans with the Support of Shinnyo-en.
This course is organized by Pathways Japan and aims to support Afghan evacuees and former students/residents residing in Japan who do not have any other opportunities to learn Japanese for work by a professional language teacher. Through the online lessons, the participants are expected to improve their Japanese language skills for opening up better career opportunities and building competencies in Japan.
Up to date, we have offered courses for beginner level and N3 preparation, but this year we’re changing the beginner class to an intermediate class in order to help learners find more stable employment in Japan.
Course outline:
Intermediate Class
Period:
・Term1: Tuesday, August 12 – Thursday, October 2
・Term2: Tuesday, October 14 – Tuesday, December 2
Lesson hours:
・Tuesdays and Thursdays
・7:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Japan time)
Lesson fee: No fee is required
Type of class: Online class (Zoom)
Class: Intermediate level, focusing on working environment
Number of participants: Maximum 6
Target: Afghan evacuees and residents in Japan who have difficulty in returning home
Deadline for submission: Monday, July 14
**A follow-up course for preparation for job interview and CV writing will follow.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be at a pre-intermediate level in Japanese. (This course is not for beginners or advanced learners above JLPT N3 level.)
- Applicants must be older than 15 years old (negotiable for participation under 15 years)
- Applicants should be able to attend every class and submit their homework every week. (more than 3 day absences or more than 2 tardies without prior notice to the teacher (more than 10 minutes late) will be considered as failure to continue the program and will not be allowed to participate thereafter)
- Participants should be willing to find employment (or build a further career) in Japan after completion of the class.
This Class Is Suitable For
Learners who:
- Can read and write hiragana and katakana
- Can read and write some basic kanji
- Can have simple conversations with coworkers/managers or friends
What You Will Learn
This class is designed for people who:
- Want to study vocabulary and grammar at the intermediate level (JLPT N4 / CEFR A2 level)
- Want to improve speaking and listening skills for the workplace
- Want to learn how to use the right expressions depending on the situation and the person they are talking to
*This is not a JLPT preparation course. The main goal of this course is to improve your practical Japanese communication skills.

* Your plan for your job-hunting after completion of this course.
