Japan-Ukraine University Pathways is a program for admitting students impacted by the war in Ukraine to universities in Japan. Launched in spring 2022, 16 universities have recruited a total of 74 students as of September 2023.
In spring 2024, six universities will admit new students and provide scholarships. Please review the information about each university, eligibility requirements and application guidelines before applying.

Program Overview
Bunkyo Gakuin University, Daito Bunka University, Kansai University, Ryukoku University, Soka University and Tokyo Woman’s Christian University will accept applications from Ukrainian students. Eligibility requirements are different for each university, so please check the information below. More details about the programs offered by each university can be found from the “learn more” links.
Most universities will admit students first as non-degree-seeking students, and continue to support them for up to four years for an undergraduate program or two years for a graduate program until they obtain degrees. To transition into a degree program, students must pass the entrance exam. If students do not pass the exam, they must find other opportunities.
There is one application for all universities. You do not need to submit separate applications to each.

Status of admitted students | Students may be admitted as either non-degree-seeking students or degree-seeking students. To become a degree-seeking student, the student must take and pass the university’s regular admissions exam separately. |
Duration of support | – The maximum duration of the non-degree program is two years. – If the student passes the entrance exam to become a degree-seeking student, they will receive support for a maximum of 4 additional years (the minimum time required for graduation).student, they will receive support for a maximum of 4 additional years (the minimum time required for graduation). |

2. Daito Bunka University | |
Number of awards | 1 |
Status of admitted student | The student will be admitted as a non-degree-seeking student. After being admitted, the student will have a chance to take the entrance exam for international students. If the student passes the exam, they will be admitted to a degree program. |
Duration of support | – Maximum 2 years for the non-degree program. – If the student passes the entrance exam to become a degree-seeking student, they will receive support while enrolled in the course. |

Who can apply? | – Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Ukrainian universities (including those taking a leave of absence or taking courses online from abroad) – Those who are no longer enrolled in Ukrainian universities may not apply. – No age limit |
Language requirement | Applicants must have the ability to take university-level courses in either Japanese or English. JLPT N2 equivalent and above OR English CEFR B1 equivalent and above |

4 Ryukoku University | |

Student status when admitted | Non-degree-seeking students *Students will be admitted to the Japanese Culture and Language Program (JCLP) and will have a chance to take the entrance exam to become degree-seeking students (either undergraduate or graduate) at the end of this program. |
Duration of support | Maximum 5 years – 1 year for the non-degree program. – If the students pass the entrance exam to become degree-seeking students, they will receive support for a maximum of 4 additional years (the minimum time required for graduation). |

Who can apply? | – Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in universities in their home countries (including those taking a leave of absence or taking courses online from abroad) – Those who have already graduated from universities in their home countries – Those who have dropped out of universities in their home countries – Those who are enrolled in short-term programs at Japanese universities – Those who are attending language schools in Japan – Those who have graduated from high school in their home countries in 2023 or will graduate from high school in their home countries by March 2024 – Must be 26 years old or younger – Those who graduated from high school in Japan in 2023 or will graduate from high school in Japan by March 2024 are not eligible. |

Language requirement | <Non-degree-seeking students> JLPT N3 equivalent and above <Degree-seeking students> Must have taken EJU in June 2023 or plan to take it in November 2023. Depending on the major of your choice, you may need to have taken an English proficiency test in or after January 2022. Please check the requirements for each major here. |

② Read the explanation of each university by clicking on the “Learn More” button. Please note that the content of support and available majors differ in each institution.
③ Click on “Apply Now” and create an account on Submittable.
④ Submit the online application form by 11:59 p.m. Japan time on the day of the deadline.
You must apply by Friday, October 13, 2023.
